Scarlett Clarke
A highly creative, proactive and motivated third-year undergraduate at Durham University with a passion for impactful and engaging storytelling.
Getting my start in student journalism as Interview editor at Indigo, Durham University’s arts and culture magazine, I was able to craft insightful features on people and projects that were meaningful to my student community.
I developed this skill further in a short work experience placement at MyLondon, analysing their high-performing articles to inform my pitches for the publication.
Currently, I am serving as Deputy Editor-in-Chief at Palatinate, Durham University’s award-winning student newspaper. In this role, I have undertaken the management of editorial projects and led teams working to tight deadlines.
I have also been the Executive Producer for the student theatre company Wrong Tree, spearheading both social media strategy and production logistics.
Alongside this I have launched a Substack newsletter, tea and chats, to allow myself the freedom to experiment with my writing while building an independent portfolio. I hope to continue to grow this as I leave university. At present it focuses on creative writing, but I am aiming to broaden this to include commentary on my interests including queerness, feminism and culture.
I am actively seeking opportunities to connect with like-minded professionals and media brands; to gain experience, develop my craft and meaningfully contribute.
